Starting a Men's Ministry

START A
MEN'S MINISTRY

A step-by-step guide to building a thriving men's ministrythat transforms lives and strengthens your church

🙏

Prayer First

Before you plan anything, before you recruit anyone, before you schedule a single meeting — pray.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." — Psalm 127:1

The Roadmap

Seven proven steps to launch and sustain a powerful men's ministry

1

Find 2-3 Committed Men

You don't need a crowd. You need a core. Look for men who are hungry for God, willing to lead, and ready to invest in others. Start small, build deep.

2

Build a Culture of Expectation

"If you expect greatness from your men, they won't let you down." — Brother Soto

Don't accommodate mediocrity. Set the bar high. Men rise to the level of what's expected. Call them to prayer, holiness, and leadership.

3

Start with Breakfast or Small Groups

Keep it simple. Meet weekly or monthly for breakfast, coffee, or a small group. Consistency matters more than complexity. Show up, open the Word, and pray together.

4

Tackle Real Issues

Don't avoid the hard conversations. Address what men are actually struggling with:

  • Pornography and sexual purity
  • Addiction and destructive habits
  • Passivity in spiritual leadership
  • Marriage and family struggles
5

Build Vulnerability in Small Groups

Small groups create "no place to hide." When men meet consistently in groups of 4-6, authenticity happens. Vulnerability breeds accountability. Accountability brings transformation.

6

Prioritize Spirit, Not Just Activity

Golf tournaments and camping trips are great, but they're not enough. Every gathering should include prayer, worship, and an altar call. Men need the Holy Ghost, not just camaraderie.

7

Use Proven Curriculum

Don't reinvent the wheel. Leverage the resources already developed by national UPCI Men's Ministry:

  • Build Better Men — 12-Week Discipleship Curriculum
